Allegiant Air, which began serving Destin Ft Walton Beach last May, has decided to make VPS Airport a hub.

The announcement was the single largest expansion into Florida in the company's history. It is a decision expected to bring another 100,000 visitors to Northwest Florida. By basing two Airbus A-320 aircraft at the airport, Johnson said Allegiant will be able to add 11 new destinations to the six it already offers. "Eleven new flights is by far the largest expansion we've had in Florida"
The flights include non-stop travel to and from major U.S. cities such as New York, Washington D.C./Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Cleveland. Straight shots to and from Louisville Kentucky, Austin Texas, Columbus Ohio, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Peoria, Ill., and Springfield, Mo., also are being offered.
The new destinations are sure to provide an economic boost to the county and region. Adding large metropolitan areas like New York, Washington and Cleveland "opens up a whole half of the country" not only to Florida visitors, but also to area residents
"Allegiant has found us to be such a great destination, they've decided to make us a hub,"
